Anderson "The Spider" Silva
Q: Congratulations on your most recent win over Dan Henderson in UFC 82. How hard was this fight for you? Was there anything about Dan Henderson that surprised you?
A: Thank you. Actually it was a very hard fight, but I trained a lot with my crew, and we achieved one more victory. As I said before I trained a lot to avoid any unpleasant surprise.
Q: In your post-fight interview with Joe Rogan you said, not taking away anything from Henderson, but that Rich Franklin was the one that gave you a real challenge in the Octagon was Franklin really harder to defeat then Dan Henderson?
A: No, absolutely not, but I got the title from tich, he" defended " it several times and has history in the UFC.
Q: Out of all your most noted wins, Rich Franklin, Hayato Sakurai, Nathan Marquardt, Carlos Newton, Chris Leben, Travis Lutter, Jeremy Horn and Dan Henderson which are you most proud of?
A: All these fights were and still are very important in my life.
Q: Sherdog just ranked you as the best pound for pound fighter in the world, ahead of heavy weight Fedor Emelianenko how does that feel?
A: I will only be able to know if i was the best when I retire and look back, then I will really know if i was the best as they say.
Q: Can you see yourself ever entering an absolute tournament (like Pride used to have) and go against heavy weights Quinton Jackson and Fedor Emelianenko? Or do you feel that MMA has evolved too much for absolute tournaments?
A: I really don't know, but MMA is growing a lot. Maybe Dana knows how to answer (laughs).
Q: Speaking of evolution, how has Anderson Silva, the man and the fighter evolved since the first time you walked into the ring in the beginning of your career?
A: I believe that I'm still the same person, training a lot, when I'm not training I spend most of the time with my family. Actually I can answer this question better when i retire.
Q: With all of your success would you say that you are currently at your peak- at the top of your game? Is this the best shape you have ever been in, mentally and physically?
A: I believe that i am more mature, training very hard, and with the support of my crew and friends, everything is working out!
Q: What was the hardest fight of your career, to date?
A: Each fight, and training has a different history, that is why i practice very hard to "superar minhas falhas"
Q: In 2006 Antonio Nogueira gave you your black-belt in Brazilian Jiujitsu. How did it feel, were you surprised?
A: It was a great honor, because I admire both Rodrigo and Rogerio as people and as fighters, we are like brothers. A huge responsibility also (laughs).
Q: How many years did you train BJJ before you received your black belt?
A: I love Jiujitsu, since the beginning of my career.
Q: What did you and your team do to celebrate after your win this past Saturday?
A: We always have dinner together, and stay in the room, playing video games and talking about the fight.
Q: Do you have any preflight tradition? Anything you must do before you go out into the Octagon / Ring?
A: We pray, me and my crew.
Q: Do you switch up your training for each new opponent? Or do you follow the same training regiment?
A: It is always the same line of training.
Q: If you can, can you give us a small insight into your typical training day when preparing for a big fight?
A: In the morning Muay Thai, in the afternoon physical preparation, MMA at night.
Q: After your most recent victory over Dan Henderson, most people do not know who to pair you up with, if you can choose any opponent who would it be?
A: My clone!!!
Q: Who has been your greatest influence in the sport of MMA?
A: Many people, my family, friends, athletes...
Q: Many people might not know that in 2005 you had a professional boxing fight, which you won by knockout. Why in the middle of your MMA career did you go over and try Boxing?
A: I have always done Boxing, I trained over a long period in Sao Paulo, few people know about it, and I had the opportunity to fight in Bahia, and i believe this year i will still fight against Roy Jones Jr in boxing rules.
Q: Who do you think will win in the upcoming fight between BJ Penn and Shawn Sherk?
A: It will be a hard fight, if I can I will be there to see it.
Q: And lastly- Do you believe in abstinence (no sex) before you fight? If yes, how long?
A: Each person has its believes, I'm always very focused before my fights.
